This design was done under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE): EC-US Cooperation Program in Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training grant, “Development of International Core Competencies and Student and Faculty Exchange in Information Design.” This three-year grant (with a fourth year no-cost extension) with the University of Idaho and Columbia College in the US and with Mälardalen University (Sweden), the Utrecht School of the Arts (the Netherlands), and the Bauhaus University (Germany) [in 2004-2005 the grant was with the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano (Italy)] in the EC with the International Institute for Information Design (IIID, Austria) serving as a coordinating center for the 6 institutions. The grant enabled a total of 5 WSU Graphic design students to study for a semester abroad at the EC partner schools and WSU hosted a total of 5 EC students from these schools. The grant also enabled faculty exchange between the EC and US institutions; I taught at Mälardalen University during the second year of the grant. I was the WSU PI. $204,000; $35,785 WSU
